Coalition wants to continue providing critical services to SDC population post-closure

The decision to close the Sonoma Developmental Center (SDC), as well as the rest of the state’s centers for the developmentally disabled, poses three large questions: what to do with the extremely medically fragile clients living there now; what to do with the highly trained staff who take care of them; and what to do with the incredibly valuable open space that surrounds the campus.

  1. I am so sorry to see the SDC close. I believe that many of the clients who live there cannot be well cared for in a community setting. I think their health and welfare should guide all decisions regarding closure time frames. If & when the SDC does close, I hope that this jewel of state property will be preserved so that all can enjoy it. A state park that links up with Jack London State Park is a wonderful idea. Any commercial development on this gorgeous site would be criminal.
